Glass Buttons

Do you know why glass buttons are not in vogue? Is it because they are difficult to manufacture? Expensive? Lost art, old technology? All of the above may be true, but the main reason we don’t use glass buttons is because they break easily.

We’ve collected and used vintage and contemporarily made glass buttons on some of our shirts, blouses, and handbags, etc. They are often strikingly beautiful and distinctly unique, but we have found that even a careless drop on the floor or hard pressed iron will cause them to break.

Here is an old saying:

‘Those who sew on glass buttons should not launder commercially’.

You can find some beautiful glass buttons at Britex Fabrics 146 Geary Street in San Francisco.
