BANANA
A good friend, when seeing this work for the first time, exclaimed, ‘The funniest fruit!’ It may well be for all we know. Maurizio Cattelan most recently displayed a ripe banana duct-taped to a wall at Art Basel and titled it – ‘Comedian.’ In some ways, Andy Warhol’s 1967 Banana, first drawn for a Velvet Underground album cover, was humorous too. We are not certain our banana effort has anything to do with comedy; National Geographic Magazine originally commissioned it. Perhaps just the presence of the simple banana displayed as art elicits a chuckle or two.
A print of ‘BANANA’ by Elvis Swift is available upon request.
