Many years ago I was in the habit of smoking cigarettes. It occurred to me that it might not be in my best interest to do so, therefore, endeavored to quit. Finding the effort to stop smoking a bit harder than it had been to start, and to take my mind off of the constant craving, I brought my old 1925 Underwood typewriter out to the back room of the house and completely restored it. I took every last screw, key, gear, spring and every piece apart. Cleaned each one, oiled every moving piece, polished all the chrome components. Reassembled the typewriter to perfect working order and still use it to this day. It took me a couple of months to accomplish the task, but it helped me quit smoking. Haven’t smoked since. Don’t want to refurbish another typewriter.
This is a print of that typewriter (with a woodpecker sitting on it). The original ink drawing was commissioned by the National Audubon Society.
