My first visit to Naples Florida was the winter of 1996 when the weather up north was unbearably freezing cold with everything covered in snow and ice. Down in Naples, the sky was clear blue, palm trees were wafting in a light warm breeze, and the birds were singing melodically. Upon returning to Minnesota, I was taking the trash to the curb, and slipped on the steep ice covered driveway and rode the garbage can down the hill and into the snow-covered street.
It was only a couple of years later that I moved to Naples lock, stock, and barrel. Shortly after arriving here, I met an individual who told me they had done the same, moving from up north to Naples 10 years earlier. I suggested that it was a joy to be able to walk the beach, and how gorgeous it was. The person looked at me and said ‘I haven’t been to the beach in um, over eight years, got busy with things and just plum forgot about it.’
I walk the beach for several miles a few times a week. Every week, for the last 16 years. I think of the person I met and don’t want to forget how nice it is down here in Naples.
Here is a print of some of the things you’ll see on the sand and in the water on the Naples beach. Come down and visit, perhaps you’ll move here too.
